Permaculture Internship
We are very excited to announce that we have designed one (and potentially two) new internship position(s) for the 2012 season.
Here is what the internship looks like:
-
Starts the first week of April 2012 and finishes mid October 2012. - A three hour block, 1 day per week on weekdays. The intern would come to our home in East Calgary and help with whatever project we have ongoing. Examples of projects include: garden planning, starting seedlings, building projects, spring planting, food forest management, greenhouse management, making compost, brewing & applying compost tea, installing water tanks, designing irrigation systems, harvesting & processing, seed saving and so on...
- The exact time slot will be mutually decided upon once we grant the internship. We will strive to find something that works best for everyone. It could be a morning, afternoon or early evening - we will just want it to be consistent throughout the season.
- The intern will help us to facilitate one Open Yard per month. This 3-4 hour commitment occurs each month and is normally scheduled on late afternoons or early evenings from May through to October.
- The internship is unpaid - but read about the perks and benefits below.
As for perks & benefits, our intern willl:
- work closely with Rob &/or Michelle on projects and benefit from mentorship and knowledge exchange.
- gain intimate knowledge of the systems at work in our home & garden and experience teaching about them through our Open Yard events.
- get fed a delicious, nutritious and scrumptious meal on his/her weekly visit.
- have the opportunity to attend consultancies & speaking engagements with Rob
- have the opportunity to complete additional work trade hours in exchange for registration in any 2012 course. We have some great courses planned for next year including: Food Forestry, Water Harvesting, Urban Permaculture Design and Advanced Soil workshops.
No gardening, shop skills or permaculture experience is required, but ideally the candidate has already completed a permaculture design course and is very keen to contribute and learn.
If you are interested, please email a cover letter and resume to internship@vergepermaculture.ca. We will be accepting applications until January 31st, 2012 and plan to announce internship position(s) by February 29th, 2012.
Thanks for applying!
Rob & Michelle Avis
